The Assessment-Only Program in XtraMath Premium is a diagnostic tool that helps educators identify students’ fluency levels and pinpoint gaps in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
💡 This tool is particularly useful for older elementary, middle, and high school students who need fluency intervention.
It also serves as a monitoring tool to ensure students develop fact fluency appropriately throughout the school year. This allows educators to make data-driven instructional decisions, track fluency progression, and guide targeted instruction.
How It Works:
- Starts with Placement Quizzes – Students begin with a placement quiz in one operation (e.g., addition)
- Quick Progression to the Next Operation – Based on the quiz results, students move swiftly to the next operation (e.g., a score of 47 in addition leads to a subtraction quiz).
- Sequential Operation Assessment – Students follow a structured sequence: addition → subtraction → multiplication → division.
- No Practice – This program only includes placement quizzes—students do not complete mastery-based practice activities.
✅ Best Practices for Educators Using the Assessment-Only Program
- Use Assessment Data to Guide Instruction – Analyze assessment results to identify fluency gaps and determine which math operations require additional support. Use this data to group students strategically and tailor instruction to their specific needs.
- Assign a Targeted Fluency Program – Since the Assessment-Only Program does not include practice sessions, transition students into an appropriate fluency program based on their results. Select a program that aligns with student needs, such as Beginning Addition for early learners or Regular/Expanded Multiplication for upper grades, to help them strengthen and master their math facts.
- Differentiate Instruction for Diverse Learning Needs – Support struggling students by extending response time to 6 or 12 seconds. Challenge advanced students with shorter response times and the Expanded problem set, which includes facts up to 12s.
- Track Fluency Progress Throughout the Year – Administer the Assessment-Only Program at key intervals—BOY (Beginning of Year), MOY (Middle of Year), and EOY (End of Year)—to monitor growth, refine instruction, and ensure students progress toward fluency mastery.
