Basic requirements for XtraMath

Technical Requirements

• An internet-connected device with a modern browser. JavaScript must be enabled.
• Headphones are recommended in a public setting, since the program includes short videos that instruct the student on what to do.

Educational Requirements

XtraMath is a fluency tool, not an instructional one — it doesn't teach students how to perform math operations. Instead, it strengthens automatic recall of facts students already understand conceptually.

That distinction matters for how you prepare students. Before introducing XtraMath, make sure students can solve the relevant problems accurately using their own strategies — counting, drawing, manipulatives, or mental math. Concrete instruction with manipulatives, number lines, or fact families helps build that conceptual understanding first.

Once a student can consistently answer accurately, XtraMath is the right next step: repeated, low-pressure practice that turns those facts into automatic recall over time. If a student is still working out answers step-by-step rather than recalling them, they likely need more concept-building instruction before XtraMath will be effective for them.
