XtraMath has always been driven by input from teachers who know what’s best for their students. We are proud to announce our most comprehensive update in years, including often-requested timer options and a modern teacher experience. The many improvements in this update are made in honor of our late founder, David Jeschke, in recognition of his contribution to early math education since 2009. Here’s a closer look at what’s new and how it benefits your classroom:
1. A 12-Second Threshold option to support Early Learners
As requested, we’ve introduced a 12-second threshold for both the beginner and regular sets of math facts in the standard programs, as well as in the “Build Your Own Program or Assessment” feature for Premium users, allowing customization across different difficulty levels and specific math operations.
This is designed for students who are just developing conceptual understanding and need more time to feel confident answering. Students can build a strong foundation before progressing to the 6-second or faster threshold.
2. A 3-Second Threshold option to demonstrate accurate fluency
We’re excited to bring back the original option for practicing regular math facts with a 3-second threshold. This is the more challenging option that evidence suggests is the best measure of the accurate, automatic recall that defines fluency.
Benefits for Your Classroom:
• Provides a smoother transition to higher fluency levels.
• Reduces frustration and builds math confidence.
• Supports differentiated learning for students with diverse abilities.
3. A Fresh, Modern Teacher Interface
The Teacher experience has been redesigned to be more intuitive and efficient. Updates include a new left-side menu with classroom dropdown, quick links to resources, and streamlined options for adding classes.
Both the 12-second and 3-second options mentioned above are available to all teachers in the standard Student Program via “Change Programs” settings . All regular Student Programs start with addition, then subtraction, multiplication, and finally division.  Teachers can restart the program or change to another standard program at anytime. XtraMath Premium Teachers may select any combination of operation and threshold timer option for their student programs.
What’s Improved:
• Easier navigation for quick access to key tools and data.
• A cleaner, more engaging design without changing functionality.
• Better management of multiple classes and Premium licenses
What’s Next?
We’re extremely proud to continue our founder’s vision and remain committed to incorporating to feedback from teachers. We are busy working on a range of new improvements. Thanks to your support, XtraMath continues to help millions of students every year to develop their essential math skills.
