New XtraMath Game Mode Boosts Math Skills

XtraMath now includes fun, standards-aligned math games to reinforce fluency.

As educators, you understand the vital role consistent math practice plays in student success, as well as the challenge of addressing diverse learning needs within tight classroom schedules. At XtraMath, we’re always evolving to help students build strong math skills. That’s why we’ve partnered with Legends of Learning to bring their proven game-based learning platform, Awakening, to XtraMath users.

What Is Awakening?

Awakening offer game-based math practice as an optional extension of the core XtraMath experience. The smart part? Students can only access it after completing their daily personalized math fact fluency session—and only if a teacher or parent enables it.

Once activated, students seamlessly transition into a curriculum-aligned game world where they apply math skills through interactive challenges and earn in-game rewards, such as avatar customizations. It’s more than just fun—it’s a strategic way to reinforce learning.

Educators maintain complete control and can enable or disable Awakening at any time through the XtraMath dashboard. This ensures that essential fluency practice remains the focus, with supplemental games available only as needed.

Proven Learning Benefits

Awakening provides a structured and supportive learning environment where students engage with math through interactive educational games. It’s not just another game; it’s based on solid educational research. According to studies from WestEd and Vanderbilt University, students using Awakening at least twice a week achieved noticeable gains in math fluency.

Its approach encourages creativity and enjoyment in math learning, allowing students to customize avatars using rewards earned through practice.

Free, Easy to Set Up, and Secure

Yes! Awakening is completely free for all XtraMath users. There’s no extra setup, no new logins, even if students use Clever or ClassLink. Teachers can easily toggle access for individual students or the entire class through their existing XtraMath dashboard.

Awakening is ad-free, secure, and aligned with our core commitments to equity, simplicity, and data privacy. Families have the option to create accounts and monitor students’ progress, making it an excellent tool for at-home reinforcement, especially during school breaks or remote learning periods.
