Teacher Guide

In this guide, you'll find everything you need to take your first steps into XtraMath.

Setting up your Classes

Adding Students Manually

As a teacher, you can create classes and then add your students manually. This is the simplest solution in many cases, especially if you have a single class.

Instructions (website)

  1. Sign into your teacher account and click Add Students on the left of the class report
  2. Type in the first student’s name, and adjust their grade level. You can set a specific PIN (unique within this class) or just use the randomly chosen one.
  3. Press Enter or click the (+) button to add another student.
  4. When you are finished adding all the students, click Done and you will return to the class report.

Third Party Rostering Integrations

XtraMath currently has two rostering integrations: ClassLink and Clever (via the Clever Library). At this time we do not have integrations with any other services, such as Google Classroom, though we hope to in the future.

💡 While we offer Google sign-in for students, there is currently no way to automatically link a batch of students with their Google logins all at once.

ClassLink

The ClassLink integration is set up by the school or district. This integration allows XtraMath to sync to the school or district’s ClassLink Roster Server every night. See How can administrators manage the ClassLink integration? for setup information.

Clever

Teachers may “install” XtraMath for their classes within Clever, allowing those rosters to be automatically created in our program. As a Library app within Clever, rather than a Secure Sync app, XtraMath cannot be pushed out by the district or school. See How can I use XtraMath with Clever? for teacher setup instructions, and How can administrators manage the Clever integration? for the school or district’s management options.

Manual Class Rostering

XtraMath requires a Premium license for manual rostering via uploaded data. See our Pricing page for license details. We can upload district- or school-provided data directly to our database. The XtraMath Rostering Instructions (PDF) provides in-depth documentation regarding what data is needed and how it should be formatted.

I just created my first class. What's next?

Everyone's needs are different, but the following steps are often helpful when you're getting set up for the first time. Be sure to check out our Teacher Start Guide for additional help and information!

Review program assignments

Students in your new class will all be assigned a default program based on their grade level. Depending on your needs, you may want to review or change the program assignments.

Get sign-in information ready for students

This likely means printing student PINs for distribution, but it could be ensuring each student knows their Clever or ClassLink credentials. If students will be using XtraMath at home, you may want to send home family flyers.

Add or transfer any additional students

You can add additional students to your class as needed, or transfer a student from another class if they have moved classrooms. If you are using the Clever or ClassLink integration, you can't add the student directly. See How can I manage my classes if I'm using a rostering integration like Clever or ClassLink? for more information.

Set up classroom sign-in page, if applicable

There are a number of ways that your class can sign in. If you have decided on using the classroom sign-in page, you will need to get that set up on the classroom computers or devices.

How can I manage my classes if I’m using a rostering integration like Clever or ClassLink?

General Management

If you need to create a class, add a student or move a student to a different class, those changes must be made in the rostering application such as ClassLink or Clever (or in your school’s Student Information System that uploads data to it).

ClassLink

💡 XtraMath syncs with your school or district’s ClassLink Roster Server every night.

ClassLink is the source of truth for data such as class names, your email address, and student grade level. This means that if you change a student's name (for example) within XtraMath, it will change back to how it is listed within ClassLink the next time the programs sync. If you need to make a change to this type of data, talk to your school’s IT / ClassLink administrator. Once they fix it within ClassLink, the change should appear in XtraMath by the next day.

Clever Library

💡 XtraMath syncs with your Clever account whenever you sign into XtraMath using Clever
.

You can rename students within XtraMath without changing any data in Clever. From the class report, click the student’s name to go to their student report, then go to Student settings. Change the name and submit. The original name (as provided by Clever) is still shown as extra information on the online student report.

Similarly, you can rename classes. Go to the class report and click Class settings. Change the name and then submit. The original name (as provided by Clever) is still shown as extra information on the online class report.

You can hide Clever sections that are not using XtraMath, or that are redundant. On the class report, click Hide class. You will not see reports for any classes that are hidden. You can unhide them at any time on your Account page. Just click the X next to a section name to make it viewable again. settings on your class report. See How do I edit the name of my class or change when it ends? for more information.
